Electrical Warning Signs to Take Seriously
These symptoms can range from minor nuisances to fire hazards. If you're noticing any of them, call for an inspection before they get worse.
Flickering or Dimming Lights
Occasional flicker is usually a loose bulb. Persistent flickering — especially across multiple rooms — can indicate a loose connection in your panel or main service, which is a fire risk.
Breakers That Keep Tripping
A breaker that trips once is doing its job. One that trips repeatedly is telling you there's a real problem — an overloaded circuit, a short, or a failing breaker that needs attention.
Dead Outlets or Switches
An outlet that suddenly stops working is often a tripped GFCI — easy fix. But if resetting doesn't help, there may be a wiring fault or a failed device that needs replacing.
Warm Outlets or Switch Plates
Electrical components should never feel warm to the touch. Heat means resistance, and resistance in a wire means potential arcing — one of the leading causes of house fires.
Buzzing or Crackling Sounds
Any buzzing, crackling, or hissing from an outlet, switch, or panel is a serious warning sign. Turn off power to that area immediately and call for an inspection.
Burning Smell Near Outlets
A burning or plastic smell near any electrical component means something is overheating. Don't use the outlet. Shut off the circuit and call us — this is an emergency situation.
